Vulnerable refugees who fled the war in Ukraine and found safety in Moldova are gradually restoring their sense of normality thanks to EU-funded cash assistance distributed by Caritas Czech Republic. Aurica Ionitza  - a young mother of five from Zaporizka region who received the cash aid - remembers the struggle she and her family went through to survive from the beginning of the war until she managed to take refuge in Moldova.

17 km from Chisinau, a modest little house became home for a family from Ukraine with 9 joyful children.   Expelled by the war from their village, Mihailovs were delighted to find a roof over their heads in Moldova, especially as the family was waiting for the new member to be born soon.

A small own house in Moldova is the future plan of a refugee family

The story of this refugee family is special. There are 6 members in the Emi’s family and exactly half of them were born in Moldova.  One day, Ecaterina, originally from Moldova, and Ion from Ukraine, met. They liked each other and decided to start a family. They lived periodically in both countries – Ukraine and Moldova – and they were always looking for a place where they could build a nest for their children.
