Caritas Czech Republic's worldwide achievements in 2025

The year 2025 brought both good and bad news. While a ceasefire was successfully agreed upon in Gaza in October, the humanitarian situation on site remains critical. People lack drinking water, food, medicine, electricity, and safe shelter. In Ukraine and Syria, people are also grappling with the consequences of long-term conflict. Caritas Czech Republic is working to improve their living conditions. For example, we are providing psychosocial care in Gaza, supporting the development of medical facilities in Ukraine, and restoring access to drinking water in Syria. We are also securing local water sources in Ethiopia, where we are simultaneously focusing on modernising agriculture, thereby enabling local farmers to better manage the impacts of climate change. However, this represents only the tip of the iceberg of our activities around the world. Let us, therefore, recall the greatest successes of Caritas Czech Republic’s work over the past year.

Progress made by Caritas Czech Republic in home care services in Moldova, completion of a social project

Over the past three years, we have focused our efforts on strengthening home care services in the Republic of Moldova, with the main goal of improving the quality of life of older people and individuals in vulnerable situations. Home care is not only about practical assistance, but also about emotional support, dignity, safety, and a sense of belonging to the community. To support people who live alone and face various needs and health conditions in developing their abilities and improving their quality of life, Caritas Czech Republic, together with AO Homecare, developed occupational therapy services within five medico-social centres across Moldova.

Caritas Czech Republic is building a rainwater harvesting system at “Albinuța” kindergarten, in Moldova

At the beginning of September, Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova, in partnership with the Bilicenii Vechi City Hall, initiated the installation of a rainwater collection and utilisation system at the “Albinuța” kindergarten. The system, which involves capturing, filtering, and storing rainwater, will serve household needs, reducing the consumption of water from conventional sources and helping to cut institutional costs. This step is especially important in the context of many rural kindergartens facing a lack of running water, where alternative solutions are essential to ensure proper hygiene conditions for children. Moreover, the initiative provides a concrete example of how natural resources can be used efficiently and responsibly, with plans to replicate it in other institutions across Moldova.

Fragile ceasefire brings hope to Gaza, humanitarian crisis persists

The announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza on 10 October 2025 has brought a long-awaited moment of relief, not only to the population in Gaza, exhausted by two years of relentless conflict, but also to the world. For Palestinians who have endured unimaginable suffering and for Israelis who have lived in anguish over hostages, this truce offers a fragile glimmer of hope. Yet, behind the headlines of peace, the humanitarian catastrophe remains.
