Gaza in crisis: Caritas Czech Republic sustains hope where it is needed most

Since October 2023, the Gaza Strip has been facing a profound humanitarian crisis. The civilian population is repeatedly displaced and faces a severe shortage of essential resources, including drinking water, food, medicine, and electricity. The area is entirely cut off from the outside world, with no safe refuge and no means of escape. In this environment, Caritas Czech Republic is working to assist. With its team on the ground in Gaza, the organisation delivers basic healthcare, psychosocial support, and humanitarian aid.

Gaza: Starvation or Gunfire - This is Not a Humanitarian Response

Caritas Czech Republic joined a call of more than 200 NGOs for immediate action to end the deadly Israeli distribution scheme (including the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) in Gaza, revert to the existing UN-led coordination mechanisms, and lift the Israeli government’s blockade on aid and commercial supplies. The 400 aid distribution points operating during the temporary ceasefire across Gaza have now been replaced by just four military-controlled distribution sites, forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarized zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties while trying to access food and are denied other life-saving supplies.

Caritas Czech Republic supports hygiene education and sanitation improvements in Moldavian rural schools

In Moldova, outdated infrastructure and limited access to safe drinking water present a major challenge for many rural communities, especially in schools. Many educational institutions rely on wells or old plumbing systems that do not meet national safety standards, exposing children to health risks on a daily basis. To address this issue, Caritas Czech Republic, with financial support from the European Union, is conducting an initiative aimed at modernising sanitation facilities in schools and raising awareness about hygiene among students, teachers, and parents.

Bees - an unexpected tool in the fight against poverty

Every year on 20th May we celebrate World Bee Day. The importance of bees for the ecosystem and the food industry has long been known. But these insects are also a source of work and livelihoods in developing regions. For example in refugee settlements in Zambia, where dozens of refugees have started to make a living from beekeeping thanks to Caritas Czech Republic.
