Supported housing - a home that will enable people with mental disorders from Moldova to lead an independent life

Caritas Czech Republic is supporting the process of deinstitutionalisation and development of quality services for people with mental health problems. As a starting point, Caritas Czech Republic will set up 2 houses as part of "Supported Housing" service in order to increase the degree of independence and community integration of people with mental disorders. The residents of these houses will have the chance to reintegrate into the community and live a better life from that in boarding schools or residential institutions.

Future peer supporters in Moldova trained to inspire hope

Recovered people that experienced a mental health illness can become valuable sources of inspiration and support for those going through similar health problems. Such people, who choose to share their own recovery and treatment experience with those suffering from a mental illness, are called peer supporters. Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova trains peer supporters to strengthen the country’s mental health services system.

Coping with mental health problems is not easy. It is important to have someone to talk to, and even better to have someone who has dealt with similar issues and can provide invaluable care. Caritas Czech Republic will train 8 people who have their own experience with mental health problems to become peer supporters.

Telemedicine is a promising solution as it can provide remote access to health services for people from different parts of the country.

A former pharmacy in Grigoriopol, Moldova, became a warm and welcoming medical-social centre

According to the latest statistics, since 1991, 1.5 million of Moldova's population of about 4 million have emigrated. Moldova still continue to lose 45,000 citizens per year, most of them being economically active young people who is seeking stability and opportunities to build their future. As a result, people dependent of others care, most of them affected by poverty, are left alone, with no access to health and social care.
