30 teenagers from Criuleni, Moldova, became advocates for a sustainable environment

Caritas Czech Republic organized an Eco Summer Camp for Moldovan teenagers. They learned how to reuse, reduce and recycle human-made waste, how to be responsible towards our environment and much more. After joining the camp, 30 young Moldovans are now passionate advocates for environmental protection.

The war in Ukraine has turned the lives of millions of innocent people upside down. For over five months, the war has shattered Ukrainians' plans, leaving them without a home, security and stability. Since the first day of the war, Moldova has been sheltering Ukrainian refugees and providing them with urgent humanitarian assistance. After five months, Ukrainians hosted in the Moldova's shelters say they have settled in. They are gradually getting back to the normal course of life, trying to heal their invisible wounds.

The number of people who were forced to leave their homes has doubled in the last 10 years to 82.4 million refugees today. The most common reasons why people involuntarily leave their home country or region are protracted wars, political persecution and, more recently, problems related to climate change. Our assistance in 6 countries focuses not only on providing the basic necessities to live but also on sustainable solutions that give refugees a chance for a better future.

Cash assistance helps Ukrainian refugees in Moldova meet their needs in dignity

Caritas Czech Republic started the first phase of EU-funded cash assistance distributions to vulnerable refugees from Ukraine who are housed in the Dubasari, Straseni, Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti regions of Moldova. The first families, sheltered in Straseni and Dubasari districts, received financial support in the amount of 2,200 lei  (around EUR 112) per family member. This aid will help them meet their basic needs, restore a sense of normalcy and become more resilient.

We collected about 3 tons of abandoned waste during a cleanup event in the city of Criuleni on 21 May 2022.  The initiative aimed to educate and make locals responsible for environmental protection and to change young people's attitude towards littering.
